Daybook Online Journal: A Big Adventure

Welcome to my weekly post, Daybook Online Journal here at The Littlest Way. This is a post where I gather all the ordinary things that happen or are happening in my day to day. Things like what I’m reading or listening to…eating and cleaning and learning…These are the small moments that make up my blessed daily life; and I want to remember them. I would love to read your Daybook Online Journal, just leave it in the comments section below. You can use my prompts or make up your own to include items important to you; mine change depending on season and circumstance.

This week’s Daybook is inspired by my big adventure this past week.

My husband called just as I walking out the door Wednesday evening to let me know his work would let him come early from traveling…if I could come get the car by Thursday so he could drive his work truck back.  Well, I would do anything to get him home early…but in this case, anything involved flying.  I had not flown in 21 years.  And after my flight, I would be looking at a very long car ride home…by myself.  I went for it.  I got on the internet and made flight reservations, arranged friends to watch my children and get them where they needed to be, put on my big girl pants and got on a plane Thursday morning.

A couple of “Thank You’s” are in order after my grand adventure.  Thank you to the lady sitting by me at the gate waiting for our plane.  We were between gate 7 and 9.  My piece of paper, all crumpled from being clutched a little too tight through the security check point where I just did what the lady in front of me did, said gate 9.  And speaking of the lady in front of me at the security gate, I don’t think she wore a scapular and if she did it didn’t have medals on it because she wasn’t pulled over to the side for a “quick back pat down.”  Anyway, back to my gate, I sat as close to gate 9, the gate my paper said I was flying out of, so I wouldn’t get lost.  (Side note, my children joked the night before I needed to be assigned a Flight Attendant so I wouldn’t get lost.)  But guess what, the plane, my plane was boarding from gate 7.  How am I supposed to know these things?!?  I’m sure some announcement was made or some big screen somewhere would have told me this information, but I had no idea where, what, when or why.  Thank you kind lady who assured me I was in the right place and there was really no way I could get on the wrong plane.

To the man sitting next to me, thank you for being so kind.  Let’s see, where to begin?  Well, I walked past my row and had to back up to get back to it, on a full to capacity plane…and then step over you.  You totally could have brushed me off right then and there.  But you smiled nice and said hi.  Then I was trying to put my carry on bag under my seat–directly under where I was sitting; thank you for kindly telling me it wasn’t going to fit there as I kept trying to cram it under by pushing or kicking it.  Thank you for telling me it was supposed to go under the seat in front of me.  Again, you totally could have blown me off, rolled your eyes and made that ugly sighing sound…but you didn’t.  You assured me I could take pictures out the window to show my kids and didn’t bat an eye when I told you I had seven.  When I mentioned being an introvert, you said your wife was one.  I appreciate you made just enough conversation to be polite and comfortable, but then we didn’t talk most of the flight.  I needed that quiet, but also the little bit of conversation.

To the woman who sat next to me at the food court counter and leaned over to tell me if I needed to go to the bathroom you could watch my bag because you were “trustworthy,” thanks but no thanks.  I may have been in an airport larger than my small town and I may have looked like a country bumpkin, but I did not fall off the tractor last week.

To the friends who took care of my children and got people where they needed to be…Thank You!

Thanking God for…
::safe travel
::the right people at the right time
::my husband home early
::a fun Sunday evening with friends
::a great Bishop
::Leo’s clinginess right now…I am totally his girl right now in his sweet little eyes
::a bag full of fresh okra
::the drain not backing up until after Chris got home

Praying…
My schedule has been all out of whack so my prayers have suffered. My first step is to get back on track with my Prayer Journal.

Pondering…
I enjoyed some really good conversation Sunday night about the temperaments and the spiritual life. A sermon by Father Ripperger was recommended and I remembered Meg was posting about prayer and the temperaments based on the book Prayer and Temperament: Different Prayer Forms for Different Personality Types.  (Here are some other good books to read about the different temperaments: The Temperament God Gave You: The Classic Key to Knowing Yourself, Getting Along with Others, and Growing Closer to the Lord, The Temperament God Gave Your Kids: Motivate, Discipline, and Love Your Children, The Temperament God Gave Your Spouse.)

Listening to…
Right now the dryer is tumbling a load of clothes. Our drain backed up this weekend so laundry is a little behind. This song, First, is stuck in my head.

Reading…
My large print Bible

Therese, Faustina and Bernadette: Three Saints Who Challenged My Faith, Gave Me Hope, and Taught Me How to Love

Around the House…
It is time for some Fall cleaning, starting in the garage and moving inside.

In the Kitchen…
I am LOVING my new book, Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook: Eat Up and Slim Down with More Than 350 Healthy Recipes. I’ve already made a couple of recipes from it and I just got it in the mail Friday. YUM!

Our Domestic Church…
I see a need right now for frequent daily Mass.  I also need to start preparing Luke and Bridget to make their Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

    Jenny, What type of prayer does the book recommend for melancholics?

      I’m not sure. I have not placed an Amazon order yet for the book. You could visit Meg’s site, she may have explained it.
